State College is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around State College is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Pennsylvania's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

My daughter paid $500 for a valid parking permit but mistakenly parked in the wrong designated area because the parking instructions were not clearly communicated. Her car was then towed by Walkβs Towing, and she was charged $335. I understand that parking rules must be followed, but this was clearly a communication issue, not someone trying to park without a permit or avoid paying. She had already paid a substantial amount to park there. A warning, phone call or citation would have been a much more reasonable response. What made the situation worse was how rude and dismissive the staff were. They refused to acknowledge that the situation involved confusion over where the permit was valid and showed no willingness to listen or explain things respectfully. There was no empathy, flexibility or effort to resolve the issue fairly. I would strongly recommend that students and parents carefully confirm the exact parking location in writing, because having a valid permit does not appear to protect you from being towed over a misunderstanding. The lack of communication and the way this situation was handled were extremely disappointing.

Unfortunately made the mistake of leaving my car in the wrong spot, which rightfully deserves a tow. My reason for this review is the treatment of the situation. Employees were rude for no reason (I was also in a bad mood but not bad enough to be treated as rudely as I was) and not to mention it is preposterously overpriced. They simply did their job, but they can do it with a little more grace next time. Do not get your car towed by these guys!

Our recently graduated daughter stayed at the Hyatt hotel where she purchased 24-hour reserved parking as a guest. She was told by the front desk that she had the ability to park in their designated parking lot. She paid a $16 fee and was told upon check in the fee allowed guests of the hotel a spot that was βreserved for 24-hours.β She followed the instructions to the garage and parked in a spot that was marked Reserved for 24-hour parking at approximately 7pm on the day of check in. Upon returning to the garage at approximately 11am the following day (16 hours later), her car was not in the spot - she confirmed it was towed by Walkerβs Towing in State College. She followed instructions provided by the hotel, did not violate the law, parked legally as a guest of the Hyatt who paid for parking, and she was parked in their designated garage, all confirmed by Jake the Operations Manager at the Hyatt with Justin at Walkerβs Towing yet Walkerβs would not release the car unless $335 was paid and the fee would increase $100 per hour. No surprise that the tow company was extremely rude and abrasive - I get it and expected to be treated poorly by the - which we were and extremely poorly.

My wife and I were moving our daughter into an apartment in State College and had to park the cars to get some big furniture situated before finding legal parking. There was no parking in the street and all the parking out back was open but private. Students arenβt there yet and lots were empty. We needed to unload and carry up big furniture so we put our cars out back for what we thought would be a few minutes. A lady showed up and began writing a ticket. We saw her and asked her to stop and told her weβd move it immediately and she totally ignored us and continued to write the ticket. We tried to plead our case that there was not legal parking. She just continued to say βIβm doing my job.β The crazy thing is nobody was around, every parking spot was wide open. Students arenβt there yet. There was no reason for this. She was rude and probably the most miserable human I ever met. Itβs only $25 but we were parents just trying to accomplish something for a couple minutes. No empathy or patience. If this is what this company is about, they suck.
